GLTArchitects was hired to complete a design that was started by a different firm.  During this process, we proposed several options to improve function and patient care. The original design called for a single lane covered drop-off area.  Understanding the patient demographics and aging population served, GLTArchitects suggested several alternatives. The selected option was a simplified canopy design that reused some of the existing canopy’s structure to create a canopy large enough for three drop-off lanes.  This design provides improved functionality and patient safety.   Inside the building, reconfiguration of the existing space and a small addition allowed for significant improvements to the registration area.  The new design relieved congestion, improved patient privacy and allowed for six registration stations.  The new lobby and registration areas have a hospitable feel, leading to a more relaxed and comfortable experience for patients and staff. GLTArchitects also proposed several options to improve the lab area workflow, patient access and use the space more efficiently. The selected option increased staff efficiency and improved patient privacy while remaining within the overall project budget.
