Scheels Athletic Complex

Sartell, MN

GLTArchitects worked with the Sartell Youth Hockey Association, along with Sartell Youth Recreation Center and the City of Sartell to design this recently completed $6.1 M, multi-purpose, 35,000 s.f. athletic complex. For winter use, a refrigerated ice rink accommodates activities including hockey, figure skating, broom ball, and recreational skating. The arena converts to a turf practice field for summer sports and activities making this a multi-sport year-round facility. The School District will utilize the facility for their hockey program and practice for their fall and spring sports. In addition to the primary athletic space, this facility also includes training areas, a multi-use meeting room, varsity and visiting team locker rooms (6), equipment storage and a specialized Zamboni room. This new complex is connected to the existing Bernick’s Arena. GLTArchitects worked with the City of Sartell on a community center long-range plan that resulted in the completion of Bernick’s Arena in 2003. The new Scheels Athletic Complex complements and enhances Sartell’s commitment to providing community recreation space.
