The existing Sauk Rapids-Rice High School was converted to a middle school with capacity for 1,200 students. The conversion separates the building into three houses, allowing the curriculum to be delivered in the same team approach as is used in the current middle school. A roof was raised to improve the commons space. In addition, new windows, technology cabling, electrical service work and plumbing work were all done as part of the improvements to bring the building up to code. The mechanical systems were upgraded and air conditioning added. The food service area and kitchen were also improved. On the exterior, new drives and safe bus loading areas were added.
