St. Cloud State Miller Learning Resource Center Remodel
St. Cloud, MN
The Miller Learning Resource Center serves as the hub for technology support services at SCSU, providing students with access to technical assistance, computer equipment, and information technology resources. As technology services became increasingly important to the student experience, SCSU recognized the need to improve the visibility, accessibility, and functionality of these spaces. GLTA partnered with college leadership and Information Technology staff to reimagine the facility and create a more welcoming and efficient environment for students.
The primary project goal was the relocation of the Computer Store and Help Desk from the lower level to a prominent location on the building’s main floor along a major campus corridor. By positioning these services in a highly visible and easily accessible area, students can quickly receive technical support, purchase equipment, and access the resources needed to succeed in today’s technology-driven learning environment.
The renovation included 5,100 SF of IT office space and a new 2,100 SF Computer Store and Help Desk. Existing walls were removed to create large glass openings along the corridor, maximizing visibility and encouraging student engagement. New display systems were integrated into the design to showcase technology products and services, while contemporary finishes, graphics, and school-inspired colors create an environment that is both inviting and reflective of SCSU’s identity.
In addition to the IT improvements, the project included the renovation and expansion of the college’s 24-hour computer commons located adjacent to the existing coffee shop. The previous space offered limited capacity and lacked an inviting atmosphere for students. The remodeled 2,050 SF computer commons/ coffee shop provides significantly expanded seating and study opportunities, allowing students to access computers and technology resources around the clock. Large new windows, updated finishes, modern furnishings, and vibrant accent colors create a bright and welcoming space that encourages collaboration, studying, and informal interaction. The redesigned environment supports a variety of learning styles while fostering a stronger sense of connection between students and campus resources.
The renovation included 5,100 SF of IT office space and a new 2,100 SF Computer Store and Help Desk.
