Mary Commons is a multi-use building located in the middle of three residence halls. It serves as a gathering space for students with a large 2-level lounge and a mailbox and information booth. The campus bookstore was moved to Mary Commons.  Campus security had limited space prior to the remodel and now has additional office space and equipment storage and locker/shower facilities. A second floor was added to the building that provides student development offices.  Care was taken so the different departments could share staff and office equipment but maintain privacy for the students needing assistance.

This project consisted of approximately 50,000 sq. ft. that was remodeled into re-organized classrooms, labs and office space. A 9,500 sq. ft. maintenance/storage addition was added, as was a 3,000 sq. ft. classroom addition. Flexible technology is very important to SCTC. All classrooms are “smart” - constructed to accommodate 100% laptop computer use by students. A system of raceways and accessible plenums was utilized to provide the utmost in flexibility.

The Garvey Commons serving area was fully remodeled to better meet the needs of today’s students. A soup bar, new grilled options, and more “cook to order” options are now offered to students.  To upgrade to a more “collegiate” feel, the furniture was replaced, and most of the flooring was changed to offer new colors and patterns for a more comfortable feel.  Menu boards were updated, lighting was softened, and serving line finishes were improved.  The overall effect was to provide a more pleasant and comfortable serving and dining experience.

St. Cloud Technical & Community College purchased a neighboring office building to house their continuing education and customized training programs.  Six “smart” classrooms were created, along with private and open office spaces to accommodate these programs.  Four of the classrooms were equipped with an operable partition to allow them to be opened up to two larger classrooms.  A larger storage room and more exterior parking allowed the Customized Training program students to be able to come and go with much greater ease and efficiency.

In 2012, the College hired GLTArchitects to convert the reception and office space into a suite for the president.  The new space includes a reception area, private offices, open workstations, and a conference room.

An existing under utilized lounge space was remodeled to incorporate a new coffee shop and entry vestibule.  The venue offers an expanded menu and provides a meeting area for students.  The design features a “north woods” feel and incorporates a fireplace and a variety of seating options.  It opened in February, 2010.
