Stearns County Household Hazardous Waste Facility
Waite Park, MN
The Stearns County Household Hazardous Waste Facility provides a space for the community to drop off their hazardous waste items such as used oil and old paint. The 17,700 square foot precast concrete structure includes an enclosed drive-thru drop-off, a product exchange area, and a 3-bay, enclosed loading dock to ship out bulk chemicals. In addition to the storage and vehicle access areas, the office area includes reception space, four private offices, a conference/breakroom, and men’s and women’s locker rooms. Sustainable features include a horizontal geothermal heat system, heat recovery unit, LED lighting, and occupancy lighting sensors. Permeable pavers were used at some of the parking stalls to reduce storm water runoff. The building and the site were designed to accommodate future expansions.
