Madison Elementary School Upgrades, St. Cloud, MN

October 16, 2016
St. Cloud Area Schools hired GLTArchitects  to address building security concerns at Madison Elementary.  The existing main office was internally located, and staff were not able to visually monitor who was coming into the school.  GLTArchitects presented various options to relocate the office to be adjacent to the main entry.

The final solution consists of a small addition and remodeling of existing space.  The main office and nurses’ area are now adjacent to the parent drop off.  Visitors will now have to pass through the main office to get into the rest of the school.  The main entry is now aligned with a primary corridor, providing improved sight lines for passive supervision.  The former office space has been remodeled into a Kindergarten classroom.

The existing parent drop off and visitor parking has also been modified to improve safety and accessibility.  In addition, the project included new heating, cooling and ventilation systems throughout the building to improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality.  Nearly all of the windows in the building were replaced to address needed maintenance and to improve building efficiency.

Construction was completed over Summer to reduce its impact on the school schedule.
